How to Use Sea Salt Spray: Where, When and How Much

Quick answer

Use it on damp hair, before you dry. Start with 4-6 sprays, then blow-dry lifting the roots for body, or scrunch and air-dry for waves. Hair sets in the shape it dries in, so the drying does as much work as the spray.

Why damp hair matters

Water loosens the bonds that hold hair's shape. As it dries, those bonds set again, so hair sets in the shape it dries in. Sea Salt Spray goes on in that damp window, so it dries into the hair and gives it grip, texture and body.

On dry hair there's no drying left to set it in. Use it before the dryer, not after.

How to use it, step by step

  1. Towel-dry first. Damp Hair should be damp, not dripping wet.
  2. Spray 4-6 times. Damp Spread it through the hair, focusing on the roots. For just the front or a fringe, 3-4 sprays is enough. Longer or thicker hair may need a few more.
  3. Dry it into shape. Damp to dry For body, blow-dry on low or medium heat, lifting the roots and keeping the dryer moving. Finish with a cool shot to set it.
  4. Finish only if you need it. Dry Fine hair that needs more lift: 2-3 light shakes of Texture Powder at fully dry roots. Thick hair or more hold: a pea-sized amount of Matte Clay, warmed until almost invisible, worked back to front.

Going for waves instead?

Same start: 4-6 sprays on damp hair. Then scrunch the hair up in your hands and let it air-dry or use a diffuser. Once it's dry, don't brush it, or the waves will loosen.

Want a softer look? Stop after the spray and the dryer. It gives a light matte finish on its own.

Sensitive to scent? Sea Salt Spray contains fragrance. Texture Powder is fragrance-free.

Common mistake

Putting on too much at once.

Fix: Start with 4-6 sprays and dry it in. Add one or two more only if you need them.
