Why Your Hair Goes Flat by Lunch
By LV, barber and founder of ROVANEOctober 21, 2026 · 2 min read
Usually three things: how it dried, what's weighing it down, and the air around you. Roots that dry flat stay flat. Heavy product and your scalp's natural oils add weight through the day, and humidity slowly loosens the shape. Lift the roots while you dry and keep the product light.

Why it happens
- It dried flat. Water loosens the bonds that hold your hair's shape, and drying sets them again. If your roots dry lying against your head, that's the shape that sets, and it only drops from there.
- Something is weighing it down. Too much product, or a product too heavy for your hair. Fine hair feels it first. Your scalp's natural oils also travel down the hair during the day and add weight.
- Humid air. Moisture in the air gets into the hair and loosens the shape you set in the morning. That's why a style drops faster on a humid or rainy day.
- Your hands. Running your fingers through it all morning presses the roots down and adds oil.
How to keep the lift
- 4–6 sprays of Sea Salt Spray on damp roots. Damp Mostly on top and at the crown.
- Blow-dry the roots up. Damp to dry Lift with your fingers or a brush, dry the roots completely, then a cool shot to set.
- Keep the finish light. Dry Fine hair: 2–3 light shakes of Texture Powder at the roots. Thick hair: a pea-sized amount of Matte Clay.
Midday fix: don't add more product. Lift the roots with your fingertips. If you have Texture Powder with you, one light shake at the dry roots helps.

Adding more product at lunch.
Fix: More product means more weight, and flatter hair by evening. Lift the roots with your fingertips instead.
